Match the role to the Norwegian you use

For phone-based customer support, explain how comfortably you handle detailed conversations and unfamiliar questions. For email or chat work, show your written Norwegian and ability to give a concise, accurate answer. Where relevant, ask which written standard the team uses and how language quality is assessed.

Do not assume that a broad label such as “Nordic speaker” means every Scandinavian language is interchangeable. Confirm that Norwegian is the language required for the specific vacancy, and ask whether English is assessed separately for training, tools or internal meetings.

Customer service, technical support or sales?

• Customer service: compare the customer channels, types of enquiry, shift rotation and training. Ask whether the role includes sales targets as well as resolving customer issues.
• Technical support: check the product, expected technical level and escalation process. Prepare an example of diagnosing a problem and explaining the solution to someone without technical knowledge.
• Sales: distinguish incoming enquiries from outbound calls and new-business prospecting. Compare guaranteed pay with commission, and ask how targets are measured.
• Back-office or account support: look for the balance of written communication, data accuracy and administrative processing. Explain any experience handling records, documentation or time-sensitive requests.

Working abroad versus working remotely

A Norwegian-speaking remote job can still require you to live in a particular country. Before applying, confirm the permitted work location, whether initial training requires office attendance, and which hours the team covers. If you plan to work from Norway, say so at the beginning of the conversation.

For relocation, ask for the office address and start-date expectations. Check the practical timetable for travel, housing and onboarding before committing. An office role with occasional home working is different from a role that lets you work permanently from another country.

What to check in a relocation package

Request the salary and benefits in writing. Compare fixed gross annual earnings, bonus conditions, payment frequency, scheduled hours and any shift allowances. For accommodation, ask how long it is provided, whether it is shared and which costs you pay yourself.

Check whether flights are prepaid or reimbursed, what receipts are required and whether repayment conditions apply if you leave early. Make a separate budget for deposits and the period before your first salary. A benefit is only part of your package when it is confirmed for your offer.

Make your application easy to assess

Put Norwegian proficiency, English proficiency, current location, preferred destination and start-date availability near the top of your CV or cover note. Use relevant examples from customer service, retail, hospitality, administration or technical work. Explain the problem, your action and the result without overstating your responsibilities.

For a language assessment, practise a short customer conversation and a written response to a service problem. Ask the recruiter about the interview stages and what preparation is useful.
